What is full PPE and when is it required?

Remember: PPE protects both you and clients from infection - use it correctly every time.

When to Wear Gloves

ALWAYS wear gloves when:

  • Providing personal care (washing, toileting)
  • Handling body fluids (blood, urine, vomit)
  • Changing incontinence pads
  • Administering topical medication
  • Cleaning body fluid spills

NEVER wear gloves when:

  • Moving between clients
  • General conversation/social time
  • Using phones/computers
  • General household tasks (unless contamination risk)

When to Wear Aprons

ALWAYS wear aprons when:

  • Risk of clothing contamination
  • Providing personal care
  • Handling soiled items

Correct PPE Procedure

Putting PPE On:

  1. Wash hands
  2. Put on apron
  3. Put on gloves

Taking PPE Off:

  1. Remove gloves carefully
  2. Remove apron (don't touch outside)
  3. Wash hands immediately

Important PPE Rules

  • Single use only - never reuse disposable PPE
  • Change between clients
