Warning Be alert for these signs of physical abuse
  • Unexplained injuries, bruises, or marks
  • Fear of physical contact
  • Injuries in different stages of healing

Emotional Abuse - Signs to Watch For

  • Withdrawal, depression, anxiety
  • Fear of specific people
  • Unusual behavior changes

Financial Abuse - Signs to Watch For

  • Unexplained lack of money
  • Missing possessions or bank cards
  • Unusual banking activity

Neglect - Signs to Watch For

  • Poor hygiene or appearance
  • Untreated medical problems
  • Inadequate food or clothing

If Someone Tells You About Abuse

How to respond:

  • Listen carefully and stay calm
  • Believe what you're hearing
  • Reassure them they did the right thing
  • Explain you need to report it to keep them safe
  • Record everything they tell you

What NOT to Do

Important

Never do these things when dealing with safeguarding concerns

  • Don't investigate yourself
  • Don't confront the alleged perpetrator
  • Don't promise complete confidentiality
  • Don't clean up evidence
  • Don't assume someone else will report it
